Gemini and Relationship: Love in Action
Greetings to the worldwide group, it is a joy to be here for the Festival of Goodwill held in the sign of Gemini, the Twins. Gemini transmits the "Light of Interplay," right human relationships, love in action; and the deepest lessons of growth and transformation. The soul finds its way to outer expression through the pairs of opposites — the human personality and the human spirit, this is the keynote of Gemini. Humanity is the architect and carves the pathways to the intersections and connections of soul and personality. We create blueprints by sharing our stories of change, and as Socrates illuminates, "The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new." Gemini has a healing impact through partnership, as the keynotes of this sign are fluidity, recognition of duality, and soul control. The soul itself utters the Word of the disciple, "I recognise my other self and in the waning of that self, I grow and glow," the keynote of Gemini. I remember a couple of years ago a keynote for the World Goodwill Festival was, "Let the will-to-love fire the entire world with the 'spirit of relationship.'" As a way of preparing our thoughts for working with the energies of Goodwill and Gemini, let us focus on the potent words of the Mantram of Unification, a mantram of love that will synchronize our minds:
The sons of men are one and I am one with them.
I seek to love, not hate;
I seek to serve and not exact due service;
I seek to heal, not hurt.
Let pain bring due reward of light and love.
Let the soul control the outer form,
And life, and all events.
And bring to light the Love
That underlies the happenings of the time.
Let vision come and insight.
Let the future stand revealed.
Let inner union demonstrate and outer cleavages be gone.
Let love prevail.
Let all men love.

This personality/soul dualism of Gemini is exemplified through the superb ability of Gemini energies to stimulate growth and change. It is in Gemini that the Spirit of Peace, the Christ, chose to release the Great Invocation, the birth of Christ consciousness/Love in the human heart. Thus, a reason why the pulsating power of the second ray of love/wisdom is influential in Gemini, especially on this anniversary of the NGWS, known by many names: the Festival of Humanity, the Festival of Goodwill, and World Invocation Day. This sign, we are told by Djwhal Khul esoterically controls the heart of our solar system and thus controls the pulsation of life, which sustains all that is. He further tells us that Gemini is one of the most important of the twelve signs since the 2nd Ray pours through Gemini and the occult teaching informs that love underlies the entire universe and the love of Deity reaches our solar system primarily through Gemini. The love of the Whole is what gives people born under this sign their sensitivity, quick reactions, practicality and skill at communication. In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. "Whatever effects one directly affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be." I am similarly reminded by a story from an anthropologist on Facebook who proposed a game to kids in an African tribe. He put a basket full of fruit near a tree and told the kids that who ever got there first won the sweet fruits. When he told them to run they all took each other's hands and ran together, then sat together enjoying their treats. When he asked them why they had run holding hands like that, since one could have had all the fruits for himself, they said: "UBUNTU, how can one of us be happy if all the other ones are sad?" Truly a demonstration of love in action.
The Antahkarana Bridge is the lighted path of energy communication being built between the pairs of opposites. As Gemini rules the arms and the hands, it indicates service and bringing the separative/dual relationships into fusion of the One; personality and soul. The United Nations illustrates bridging examples of the human heart opening and spiritual vision strengthening the mind. At an NGO (non-governmental organization) meeting on Social Media, Dara Kell (who coined the term "Storifying") spoke on "living politics," thereby telling the story of her human rights work on the "poverty initiative," and through her "storytelling" documentary Dear Mandela. Another documentarian at this event, Chris Johnson, dealt with ending racial bias through the creation of a curriculum called the "Question Bridge." This curriculum embodying listening and questioning is enhanced through the symbol of the ears, which when we surround our fingers around them and then place our fingers together form a shape of a heart. This symbol of the soul is a sign of listening from the heart. Johnson's film, The Roof is on Fire, attempts to bridge the mind and heart and accumulate answers. One such question from a young man in the film was, "How do I make a peaceful life when I'm surrounded by evil?" Such questions as embodied through documentary storytelling highlight the interplay and circulation between the soul/personality aspects thereby "oxygenating" the blood, which Gemini governs.
There is so much to be learned from the study of dual activity: love/evil, life/death, higher/lower, and this conditioning reaches us through Gemini. This sign is called on for the resolution of duality, or the resolution of the pairs of opposites, into a fluid synthesis. It governs all the pairs of opposites in the zodiac eventually facilitating transmutation into unity, for as we're told, two must finally become the One. This duality of relationship is witnessed in Gemini's opposite, Sagittarius. In psychology, attachment theory speaks of mirroring the needs of growth and development in the other. With this in mind, Gemini reflects the soul's aspiration for achievement that Sagittarius grasps and moves towards those goals. Alice Bailey counsels, "Transfigure life in terms of accomplishment. True accomplishment involves a life of steady radiance. There must ever be crises of achievement, which will draw upon the full resources of the soul. These must be demanded by the personality. Understand the technique of an aligned personality, for [this]… draws out the interest of the soul." Therefore, as Gemini meets the opposite in Sagittarius, soul development unfolds and the expression of the soul is found in achievement, that is, in Sagittarius. In the third postulate of the Ageless Wisdom, the purpose of manifested being is the unfoldment of consciousness, or the "revelation of the soul." Is this not the theory of the Evolution of Light? Through the pairs of opposites, light flashes forth, and the goal of evolution is a "gradual series of light demonstrations," we are told.
In Esoteric Astrology we learn that Venus is the "esoteric" ruler of Gemini. Now we get a broader view of Gemini with the rays. The energies of the 4th ray "Harmony through Conflict" or as it's been mentioned, Chaos to Beauty, and the 5th Ray of Concrete Knowledge or Science through Venus. The activity of the two rulers (Venus and Mercury) relates humanity in a unique way as the fourth and fifth rays produce a synthesis of activity which are essential for human development; from suffering and pain to a one-pointed effort of balance, fusion and blending that grows and develops within the intermediate stage between Gemini and Sagittarius. This quote from DK puts it into perspective, " When the true nature of the seven rays is grasped, and when their effect on humanity in expressing the seven types of men is also understood, we shall then approach the subject of man's duality with greater intelligence. We shall comprehend better the nature of the forces which constitute one or another of these dualities" (EP I, pg. 120).
The Earth is connected to service, and the Gemini traveler discovers, through service, the line of light that integrates the two great lines of force. It is interesting to discover that the "hierarchical" ruler of Gemini is the Earth! And, the Earth is also the esoteric ruler of Sagittarius, and of course the polar opposite of Gemini. These are the only two constellations ruled by Earth, a non-sacred planet. What does this relationship mean? In Masonry these lines of force are depicted with the columns of the disciples "Jachin and Boaz" and through the sign Gemini, Hercules entered through the two pillars. As the master Hercules teaches us in his symbolic labour under Gemini in Alice Bailey's The Labours of Hercules, there is a deep longing and desire to "ascertain the facts of the spiritual life," and he incurs "spasmodic efforts at self-discipline." Although skilled in speech and wise with wisdom, he struggled with the tests of discouragement, deception or with moving too quickly. One essential keynote throughout his travels: north, south, west and east, led to his discovery that the truth was in himself, releasing the idealization of others and evoking the strength within, ultimately modeling this for humanity. Yet, the ultimate truth was found when he revealed his heart by rushing forward to lift the load from the "shoulders of his brother onto his own back, shouldering the burden of the worlds himself."
In Gemini, the blood stream is the symbol of the consciousness mechanism. The Tibetan tells us that the consciousness aspect is seated in the head and the life aspect is seated in the heart. Through this relationship, between Gemini and Sagittarius, the words of the Old Commentary seem to say it best; "When the dual forces of the cosmic brothers (Gemini) become the energy of the one who rides towards the light (Sagittarius) then the fourth becomes the fifth. Humanity, the link, becomes the Hierarchy, the bestower of all good. Then all the Sons of God rejoice."
Gemini examines the world through the intellect, and the "orthodox/exoteric" ruler of Gemini is Mercury, known as the "divine intermediary, and carries messages between the poles with speed and light." Mercury is the "star of conflict" and a major planet of relationships since it governs the interplay between our Earth and its conditioning constellations. This is what is producing the strain and struggles of planetary life, with action and reaction being overemphasized. Gemini rules the United States where we definitely can see the polarity of opposites.
"No spiritual work can proceed in safety without mental training;" knowledge and wisdom and spiritual training are mental in nature. This mental work leads us to duality and the dance of invocation/evocation, the vertical and the horizontal. Sigmund Freud spoke of healing mental illusions through free association. He had his patients act "as if" they were on a train and anything that passed by their minds eye they would describe without judgment, the horizontal. Dr. Jerry Epstein, in his book Healing Visualizations, enhanced that by including the vertical by invoking spiritual significance that might be associated to the mundane free associations. "What would they see if looking upward," he asked? Gemini rules the human mind and intellect, and as we become imbued with the 2nd ray of love, our ability to think with the heart grows. This is the gift of Gemini, the union of the pairs of opposites.
We know that mental training is connected to meditation, and that alignment of the integrated personality (the physical/etheric body, the astral/emotional body, and the mind) takes discipline and new ways of communicating with all beings. Mercury emphasises the higher mind while synthesizing the lower with the higher mental units. Gemini is an air sign that also unites, and as we know, air brings all human life into relationship. The Ageless Wisdom reminds us that there are three aspects of mind: the concrete, the abstract, and the Ultimate, that are also called the concrete, the soul, and the Monad or Spirit. Mercury increases the mental agility and fluidity of the Gemini mind. Building the Antahkarana Bridge through meditation is the ultimate way of achieving the goals of Gemini: the union through the pairs of opposites and the yoga of synthesis. The Teaching states "Synthesis Is, but Unity must be created."
In meditation, let us enter through the gate with the Herculean task of resolving the pairs of opposites in this beautiful moment of time in Gemini with our co-workers around the world. Let our minds be one with the principle of sharing, group consciousness, soul alignment, and Christ consciousness. As the great leader of the NGWS, Christ stated, "Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."
