The Spirit of Relationship

Susan MacNeil
November 2010

Welcome friends. Our group endeavour is to invoke and evoke the new incoming energies and ideals from the highest center of our planet, Shamballa, through the graded spiritual groups of enlightened and perfected beings, on into the outer world of daily living where thinking loving men and women serve.

The exact time of the full moon will be Sunday, the 21st at 17:28 PM (UT). This is when the energies of light, love, and the will-to-good are most potent. The full moon is when the earth is in direct alignment with the sun (representing the soul) and the moon is out of the way. We take advantage of these opportunities at the full moon to service humanity by funneling the energies available from the highest spheres to the lowest centers on earth.

So let's work together and sound the note of unifying love in the beautiful Mantram of Unification. As we sound this mantram, let's visualize our group standing within the "subjective" heart center of the new group of world servers as we envision light, love, and right human relationships pouring into the consciousness of humanity in order to balance out the extremes that now exist.

The sons of men are one and I am one with them.
I seek to love, not hate
I seek to serve and not exact due service;
I seek to heal, not hurt.

Let pain bring due reward of light and love,
Let the soul control the outer form,
And life, and all events,
And bring to light the Love
That underlies the happenings of the time.

Let vision come and insight.
Let the future stand revealed.
Let inner union demonstrate and outer cleavages be gone.
Let love prevail.
Let all men love.

The two full moons that occurred in the sign of Libra gave us a point of tension, and an opportunity to balance the pairs of opposites with the keynote of Libra, "I choose the way which leads between the two great lines of force." In Libra we had an amazing Aquarian experience with the trapped miners in Chile. A friend of mine said, "The whole world was watching the most extraordinary ballet of human cooperation imaginable!" But for some of the trapped miners it was a choice between the ultimate opposites - the Angel of the Presence and the Dweller on the Threshold - that has a powerful resonance for all of us as we observe current world events. The second miner freed in Chile stated, "I was with God and the devil. God won."

This event is full of esoteric meaning. We discovered that there were 3 plans for the rescue of the miners in Chile (A, B, & C). Plan B, the one that succeeded, was developed by two American riggers who had worked in the war in Afghanistan. In another example of choosing between opposites, they turned "vice into virtue." They expressed great joy about being able to use their skills to rescue lives and illustrated what's possible when intention shifts to the good. As the last miner rose from the bowels of the earth, the supervisor of the team spoke with the Chilean president and asked that new safety laws be implemented by the mine owners. The president promised this.

In the sign of Libra we also had the opening of the 65th General Assembly, with the new president, His Excellency Mr. Joseph Deiss from Switzerland, who stated, "The mission of the United Nations is to protect the dignity, security and well-being of all human beings…The whole world looks to us with hope, and we do not have the right to let the world down." The perspective of the whole is important in balancing opposites.

From Libra, where we try to understand the nature of the pairs of opposites, we move into Scorpio. The tests and trials of Scorpio involve a crisis of reorientation from matter to spirit. Our minds and hearts are awakening to the soul and we are facing choices, like the second miner, between God and the Devil. Many people these days are being pressed to choose between light and darkness, right and wrong. Libra is a time of learning discrimination. This leads to Scorpio where we are forced to find an "ultra" balance so that the soul can become predominant over the personality.

As we follow the tests of the great disciple Hercules in The Labours of Hercules, by Alice Bailey, we recognize that Hercules is "us." We face the identical labours in our path of ascension as we travel through the twelve types of energy around the zodiac of the heavens. The main work to be done is the elimination of all fear, the realization that individualism must be sacrificed intelligently for the good of the group, and that personal greed has no place in the life of an aspirant on the Path of wisdom, love, and strength.

We are now under the influence of Scorpio that is symbolized by the scorpion, the "serpent of illusion" and deception, and the eagle (or Spirit) in the higher dimension. The scorpion that stings is transformed into the eagle, which soars above earth. Again, the tests involve choosing between the pairs of opposites and then learning to transform the lower into the higher in Scorpio.

What can Scorpio contribute to human progress? Scorpio provides the necessary tests for discipleship. The aim of this sign is Soul Living, which means establishing right human relations. The keynote of Scorpio is "Warrior I am and from the battle I emerge triumphant," and we imagine that peace is our goal. Yet this keynote is about battle, confrontation, and triumph. The Tibetan teacher, Djwhal Khul, reminds us "Peace is not the goal for our race or time." It is the spirit of right relationship, which has to be established before there can be peace.

We are reminded of the battle in The Bhagavad-Gita: Krishna's Counsel in Time of War. "Krishna counsels, "A man able to endure the force of desire and anger before giving up his body is disciplined and joyful…Truly free is the sage who controls his senses, mind, and understanding, who focuses on freedom and dispels desire, fear, and anger," (p. 61-62.) This is how we arrive at inner peace, by earnestly devoting our intelligent "battle-readiness," coined by Sarah McKechnie, to the struggle for reorientation. It is the battle between the ultimate pairs of opposites: form versus spirit.

Reorientation is a group service. And, that's what we are here to do together. Not only do we seek to reorient our individual nature as our Spirit begins to attract the awareness of our form, we also begin to direct the energies of love and goodwill into the world of chaos, destruction and disorder. Some might doubt that our group "will" can have the power to change the direction of such ancient habits of greed, hate, and cruelty. Yet the power of meditation can change fear and hate into love, and the worldwide groups of servers who understand that evolution is inevitable are determined to do so.

In the Reflective Meditation on Attracting Money for Hierarchical Purposes, observed on Sundays, we voice out loud "He for Whom the whole world waits has said that whatsoever shall be asked in His Name and with faith in the response will see it accomplished…and [we] can demand it because," as highlighted in the final phrase of the Great Invocation it is stated, "From the centre which we call the race of men, Let the Plan of Love and Light work out, And may it seal the door where evil dwells." The dark side, we are told, are maybe 1000 people spread throughout the globe. "We the people" have millions, and the hearts and minds of humanity are awakening.

In Tapestry of the Gods, Michael Robbins states about Scorpio, "the Transpersonal Self wages 'war' against the lower, personal self. This results in the metaphysical "death of the personality," which dies to any separative desire of its own." The goal is discipleship in Scorpio, after our trials of weighing the opposites to find balance and turn in a new direction in Libra.

We spoke of the opening session of the United Nations taking place in Libra, yet it is worthy of note that the UN was born in the sign of Scorpio on October 24, 1945. The mission was to create an organization that would end the scourge of war and serve as a mechanism for future peace. Yet the battle rages within humanity between the negative traits of Scorpio, such as: "destructiveness, repression, revengefulness, jealousy, and self-destructiveness," and the positive traits, such as: "transformative power, penetrating perception, magnetic intensity, power to triumph, depth of character, power to regenerate, and power to confront the 'shadow self,'" (Tapestry of the Gods, Vol. 2, p. 914). This we see in the symbolism of the "burning ground" of the United Nations as it fights and battles for the common good.

In this sign of Scorpio, an individual is challenged to transform personal desire into soul love, and personal will into the will-to-good of the soul. The pledged disciple is conscious of the dualism of our nature and enters the battle to transmute the lower self by lifting the lower energy centers into the ones above the diaphragm. On the probationary path, we learn to transfer energies from the sacral center to the throat center and the solar plexus to the heart center, bringing the heart and throat centers into activity. These are the centers where the soul lives and eventually, we emerge from the battle victorious as a soul infused personality.

Scorpio is a watery sign where emotions and desires of the lower self are tested. It concerns the secrets of creation: sex, death and rebirth, change, selfish or healing power, money, and physical plane comfort. It is seen as one of the major signs of transformation. As the snake sheds its skin, it can be either a liberation from past constraints but if constraints of the past are not shed, this can be a restriction (possibly fatal). Someone born under its influence is especially susceptible to forces of light and darkness. Scorpio's challenges are powerfully experienced with the second initiation where the emotional nature must be subdued in order to become fit for world service.

Mars is the ruling planet of Scorpio, and drive for power is strong. Scorpio also embodies the 4th Ray of Harmony through Conflict. And we can imagine these energies being accessed as Hercules in Scorpio is put to nine tests. They are, in the physical realm: sex, greed for money, and physical comfort, in the emotional realm: fear, hate, and ambition, and in the mental realm: pride, separativeness, and cruelty.

In The Labors of Hercules in Scorpio, Hercules had to vanquish the nine-headed hydra, a monster that lived in a "foul-smelling bog." This is our past, lower desires, and subconscious, and Hercules had to first recognize the existence of the hydra, then search for it patiently, and finally destroy it. Is this not how we perform self-analysis? In order to solve the problem, Hercules had to go to his higher nature, and this we have been counseled by Hercules, along with Einstein and Jung, that problems are solved on higher levels than the level where they are created.

As the myth describes, each time Hercules cut off one of the hydra's heads, two more grew in its place, stronger and more gruesome than before, revealing the depths of darkness. We each can certainly identify with this by observing how hard it is to transform and change old patterns. Yet in order to solve his problem, Hercules went into another dimension. He learned the art of re-directing energy and kneeling before the hydra, he lifted it high above his head in the light of the mind, where compassion and reason finally "struck the fatal blow." "Sinking to his knees in humility and raising the monster (all the accumulated evils, mistakes, failures of his long past) into the air of the spirit, where by its very nature the hydra could not live, and so drooped and died," (Alice Bailey, Labours of Hercules, p. 142.) In Scorpio we are challenged to bring our impediments into the light of day. By humbling and purifying the personality, we learn to bring it into alignment with the Soul.

Observing the elections unfold in the United States, under the influence of Scorpio, we can see how the analysis of Hercules is playing out in our national theatre. First we recognize the existence of the "hydra." As Barack Obama stated to the General Assembly, "We will be met by dark forces that will test our resolve…" Then we search for it patiently, by listening to history, paying attention to the many voices crying out for right human relations, and being genuinely engaged in creating lasting change, which originates from the soul of each individual. And, finally, lifting the hydra high in the air we gain a new perspective and allow the rays of the sun to destroy it. "Warrior I am and from the battle I emerge triumphant" - the keynote of Scorpio.

Let us work now in meditation by invoking and evoking the power of Love and Wisdom for the healing of our "national souls" to bring to light the Divine Love that underlies the happenings of the time.
